We have planned a large collection of Phaser Modules which, when completed, should provide a next-generation alternative for teaching beginning and intermediate courses on differential equations and dynamical systems. Also, selected modules can be used to supplement courses in numerical analysis, quantitative ecology, history of mathematics, etc. These efforts are supported, in part, by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Below, you will find entry points to a sampling of Phaser Modules. Each module, dedicated to a single fundamental topic or application, is illustrated with Phaser Simulations consisting of Phaser Project or Gallery files. You can simply click on a Phaser simulation picture to run the simulation on your local copy of Phaser (on Windows OS this will happen automatically, on Unix systems you will have to set appropriate file associations).
- Dissecting A Dynamical System Equation
- A short essay on how to dissect an equation, and experimental dynamics using Phaser.
- Historic Modules
- Examples studied by the early masters (Archimedes, Liebniz, and Newton).
- Ecology Modules
- Basic continuous and discrete population dynamics models.
- Student Modules
- Student authored modules.

Phaser @ AMS-MAA 2007: Mini Course at the AMS-MAA National Meeting, January 5, 2007, New Orleans, LA. Some Deterministic Models in Mathematical Biology and Their Simulations using Phaser. This course will present and analyze discrete and continuous models from physiology (e.g., the Hodgkin-Huxley model), pharmacokinetics, and population biology (e.g., the chemostat model). The class will be conducted in a computer lab where participants will use the software Phaser to simulate model behavior.![]()
Phaser @ MAA 2005: MAA Short Course, March 11, 2005, Raleigh, NC. Some Deterministic Models in Mathematical Biology, A Workshop for the Mathematical Association of America. This short course will present and analyze discrete and continuous models from physiology (e.g., the Hodgkin-Huxley model), pharmacokinetics, and population biology (e.g., the chemostat model). The class will be conducted in a computer lab where participants will use the software Phaser to simulate model behavior.
We invite you to submit ideas and proposals for new modules of general interest. If your proposal is accepted for inclusion on our Web site, we will be happy to provide you technical assistance with the editing and formatting.
